The site has been designed to provide you with easy access to detailed information on the pension fund investment options available to you. If you are active in the NRDC and are currently employed by Network Rail, this is a useful place to go to check your current holdings. You can use the 'Planner' tool to model the effect of changing normal contributions and AVCs. There's also a 'Library' section with helpful resources and information.

A: NRDC Managed Lifestyle Fund

This is designed to be appropriate from the day you join the NRDC Scheme, right through to retirement as Lifestyle aims to match your age and time to retirement to an appropriate risk level.

This is achieved by automatically moving you across the Managed Style options depending on how close you are to your target retirement age.

Lifestyle has been designed with the aim of achieving a more stable return and to allow for your investments to work harder for longer.

The Annual Management Charge (AMC) you pay for this arrangement will depend on your age, or how close you are to your Target Retirement Age because the proportion of units you hold in each of the funds will change over time.

These charges are built into the unit prices.

4 MED/HIGH
NRDC Higher Risk Fund

This actively managed fund aims to provide returns in excess of inflation over the longer-term, and to protect against equity markets (shares) falling by defending into safer asset classes, where assets will be well diversified across the global range of asset classes.
3 MED
NRDC Balanced Risk Fund

Similar to the Higher Risk option and still actively managed, but it is expected to create a more stable return than a pure equity investment.
3 MED
NRDC Lower Growth Fund
This actively managed fund aims for a moderate return while protecting the purchasing power of your investments. Return seeking assets will be spread across a combination of managers with a bias towards bond asset classes. *Formerly called NRDC Pre-retirement Wealth Builder Fund.
2 MED/LOW
NRDC Annuity Protection Fund
This passively managed fund invests in bonds and gilts to minimise conversion risk when buying an annuity at normal retirement age. *formerly called NRDC Retirement Protection Fund

B. Pick 'n' Mix Funds

If you do not want contributions to be invested through the Lifestyle strategy, you can choose from the menu of Pick 'n' Mix funds shown here.

These funds have been risk rated by the Trustee's investment adviser.

Pick 'n' Mix funds tend to invest in only a single asset class.

If you choose Pick 'n' Mix funds please note that unlike the Lifestyle strategy you will remain invested in the funds you have selected until you 'switch' (change) your investment choices in the future.

You can allocate contributions to one fund or you can split contributions across as many of the options as you like.

6 HIGH
NRDC Emerging Markets Equity Fund
An actively managed fund which invests in equities (shares) of companies based on, or whose main activities are in, emerging economies. The aim of the fund is to meet or exceed the fund manager's targets.
5 HIGH/MED
NRDC Global Equity Fund

This index tracker fund invests in equities (shares) of UK and overseas companies. The aim of the fund is to provide returns consistent with the performance of the markets in which it invests.
5 HIGH/MED
NRDC Property Fund

Invests actively in commercial property within the UK and has the potential for investment in overseas properties. The aim is to generate investment return from both capital growth and income.
2 MED/LOW
NRDC Aggregate Bond Fund
This index tracker fund invests in both gilts and corporate bonds. Gilts are loans to the UK government while bonds are loans to companies, both of which generate an investment return or income.
2 MED/LOW
NRDC UK Index Linked Gilts Fund
This index tracker fund is invested in UK government bonds (gilts), in which the income is linked to inflation. This is a lower risk investment, but it also means there is less opportunity for significant investment growth.
1 LOW
NRDC Cash Fund

This actively managed fund is unlikely to lose money as it invests in cash funds only. However, there is a risk that it will not keep up with inflation and therefore it may not buy as much as you expect at retirement.
